Fly Fishing in Racine, Wisconsin

Did you know that people come from all over the world to fish salmon in Racine and Kenosha, Wisconsin? I use to live about 15 minutes from the Root River that flows through Racine and Kenosha.  The Root River feeds into Lake Michigan.  I started fly fishing there about 4 years ago.  We, my dad and I, run into people from Poland and other places.  They are not all locals.  There are days when you look down the river and wonder where your line will fit among all the others.

I got my first pair of waiters when I was 9 yrs old from my Grandpa.  They were big on me at that age.  This was the smallest set he could find.  He bought them at Cabela’s in Prairie Du Chen, WI.  They are comfortable because they are a bit large.  The water is really cold, even in the summer.  I like to hit the brown trout and the salmon in the fall.  We get up before the sun comes up to hit the Root River I usually wear long underwear and wool socks under them.  When its really cold I will throw on some Carhart pants from Farm n Fleet. They get kids clothes in every year. My dad likes to take me there for camouflage stuff.  I like to put on layers because it is cold in the mornings, but by noon its warm.  I also like that the best spots along the Root River are in the heart of Racine and Kenosha.  We can always peel off our layers and grab some lunch at a pub or near the water. The picture on the homepage of my website is a Brown Trout from Kenosha Harbor.
